Defending Men’s Open Division champion Maurice Allen (pictured) and the longest hitters in the world convene next week for the 44th annual World Long Drive Championship at WinStar World Casino and Resort on the Texas/Oklahoma border. Golf Channel’s live coverage begins Tuesday night, September 3rd, with the Women’s and Masters Championship, and concludes Wednesday night, September 4th, under the lights with the Men’s Championship.
To get you ready for next week’s championships, we’re running a long drive tip each day this week from Golf Channel Academy lead coaches Paul Horton and Bob McArthur from the Golf Academy at Heritage Pointe in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Horton and McArthur have worked with numerous professional golfers and athletes, including six-time World Long Drive champion Jason Zuback and eight-time Canadian Long Drive champion Lisa “Longball” Vlooswyk.
In today’s video tip, Horton explains a little-known secret among the game’s longest hitters, which is how the glutes can be activated to create more explosive power and speed and hit more bombs, as Phil Mickelson likes to say. Check out the tip below and put your glutes to work for you.
