For any forced carry, whether it’s the “Island Green” 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass or a par 3 with a large hazard fronting the green, it’s essential that you make ball-turf contact. This is the only way to ensure you hit the ball the required distance and land it safely on the putting surface. Mis-hit it just a little, especially on 17 at Sawgrass, and there’s a good chance your tee shot will reside at the bottom of the lake with thousands of other balls that fell short of their desired destination.
