Golf Digest magazine’s sixth biennial listing of the “Best Young Teachers in America” (i.e., Top Golf Instructors Under 40) was just released, and includes a record-high 13 Golf Channel Academy coaches, including nine lead coaches.
The veteran among the distinguished group of 114 up-and-coming instructors is Manhattan Woods Golf Academy’s Jason Birnbaum (pictured; West Nyack, NY), who is making his fourth consecutive appearance on the list. Other returnees—making their second consecutive appearance—to the 2018-’19 rankings include Saratoga National Golf Academy’s Anders Mattson (Saratoga Springs NY), Fore Door Golf’s Jason Sedan (New Durham, NH), The Golf Room’s Kyle Morris (Dublin, OH), Axis Golf Academy & Fitting Center’s Eujone (EJ) Kim (Montgomery, TX), Southern California Golf Academy’s Devan Bonebrake (Carlsbad, CA), High Performance Golf’s Tyrus York (Lexington, KY) and Jeff Isler Golf’s Kaylin Skovron (Southlake, TX).
Making their very first appearance among the next generation of top teaching talents are Avila Golf & Country Club’s Scott Wickham (Tampa, FL), Legacy Golf Performance Center’s Jeremy Anderson (Phoenix, AZ), Tri-Mountain Golf Course’s Sean Lanyi (Ridgefield, WA), DiJulia Golf’s Mark Walder (New Hope, PA) and the Golf Lab’s Tommy Sharp (Salt Lake City, UT).
To come up with the final list of 114, Golf Digest considered nominations from Tour players as well as coaches on their national (“50 Best Teachers”) and state (“Best Teachers in Your State”) rankings. They also weighed the coach’s accomplishments, who they learned from and taught alongside with, and what they’ve done to continue their education and growth as an instructor.
The entire list of “Best Young Teachers” can be found in the November issue of Golf Digest. Congratulations to all of the coaches who made the list!
